The only remaining member of the crew of the Enola Gay which dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima Japan during World War II passed away this week. Theodore “Dutch” Van Kirk was born and raised in Northumberland. He was 93 years old. Funeral services are set for next Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church. There will be a flyover of a World War II B-17 at the cemetary after the funeral. The plane will be on display at the Sunbury airfield where Van Kirk landed after the war was over.
